Alberto Muñíz Sánchez, 'Uncle Alberto'
Short version (3 min.)
“Luis Valls is still present in the CEMU”
On Madrid’s south side, the CiudadEscuela Muchachos (CEMU) in Leganés has become a home for more than 400 children in situations of vulnerability. Founded in 1970 by Alberto Muñiz Sánchez, known as ‘Tío Alberto,’ CEMU offers an environment of respect and freedom where children can grow and thrive.
CEMU is a special place. This educational and residential complex has classrooms, a church, a radio station, a town hall, dormitories, and even a garden and animals. The children find not only a home, but also education and fun in an environment that fosters their holistic development.
In the 1970s, ‘Tío Alberto’ met Luis Valls, and from the first moment, they realized they shared a common passion for helping others. Valls quickly integrated into the life of CEMU, frequently visiting and actively participating in the community. The children even called him “Tío Luis.”
For ‘Tío Alberto,’ Valls was more than a benefactor; he was a true friend and mentor. For this reason, with gratitude, he repeats repeatedly, “Thank you, thank you, and thank you.” Despite his physical absence, “Luis Valls is still present at CEMU,” not only in memory but in the spirit of every child who has found a home and hope in this place.
“Children need love to grow”, and thanks to people like Luis Valls, this need has become a palpable reality in CiudadEscuela Muchachos
