In Nairobi, where every day is a struggle for survival and the search for opportunities, the Eastlands College of Technology (ECT) stands out as a place where young people acquire the necessary skills to work in the industrial sector; it has become an important part of the life of many Kenyans. Students aged between 18 and 35 see the college as an educational opportunity and a place for personal development. Since opening in 2015, ECT has offered various courses, from electrical wiring to automotive technology, preparing students for a better future. The programs are not limited to theoretical teaching, as the dual training system allows students to spend 50% of their time working in actual companies. This dual methodology ensures that each young person learns and gains experience, making it easier for them to integrate into the workforce. ECT provides a comprehensive education through extracurricular activities that promote human and personal growth, including lectures and cultural and sports activities. Students are prepared for future employment and acquire and develop other essential skills.
Over 700 students have passed through its classrooms, with 80% of them receiving financial aid. Since 2011, Fundación Hispánica has been supporting ECT by providing financial resources and all the necessary support to carry out its activities. Despite being a young institution, ECT also enjoys the support of local industry. More than fifty companies regularly seek students for alternating periods, and many of these young people continue to work in these companies after graduation. Thanks to the generosity of international and local foundations, such as Fundación Hispánica, ACTES, and Fundación Cementos Molins, the future of ECT looks promising.
